An Impressive James I Open Cup-Board or Buffet
The boarded top, with moulded edge, above a gadrooned carved frieze, which continues around the sides. The centre shelf is again boarded above a rail with deep nulled decoration. The boarded bottom shelf sits above a rail with well-shaped bicuspid shaping, which again like the top and middle rail, continues around the edge. The outstanding features are the four magnificently turned supports. The two upper supports have a cup and cover design with central discoid turning and finish on a reel turned base, whilst the lower pair have a slightly simpler cup and cover design. The original front feet are a continuation of the supports. The rectangular rear supports have a simple vertical run-moulding.
An exceptional rich colour and “surface”.
